Innovation Bursaries – Applications open for PhD students

Through the TCD-UCD Innovation Alliance, the two universities are committed to ensuring that innovation and entrepreneurial skills are the outcome of doctoral education. To this end both institutions launched interdisciplinary PhD bursaries for which they are now recruiting.

In UCD, proposals were invited that would embed innovation in doctoral education in a novel and interesting manner, and contribute to an exploration of one of the UCD priority research themes with outcomes which:

  1. Stimulate innovation in its broadest sense across UCD
  2. Develop the UCD research and education strategies
  3. Support research staff in developing independent research streams

There was a strong response to the call and after assessment on the basis of academic merit and track record, interdisciplinary and crucially, innovation there were three successful PhD proposals:

  1. Sustainable transport planning (Dr Aoife Ahern)
  2. Environment and sustainable resource management (Dr Olaf Schmidt)
  3. Econometrics (Prof Colm Harmon).

UCD are currently recruiting PhD students for these fully-funded PhD positions. For more information please click here.

Trinity College is currently recruiting PhD students for two inter-disciplinary Innovation Bursaries:

  2. The Book of Kells: Investigations of style and design through the application of    non-photorealistic rendering.
